"I was 39 when I arrived at the Chrysalis House. I was beat down, both physically and emotionally. I had been drinking and using drugs for 24 years, and my life had spiraled out of control. By the time I arrived at the Chrysalis House, I was on both state and federal probations with jail time hanging over my head. I had walked away from 2 of my 3 children. I was able to bring my youngest daughter (20 months old) with me to the Chrysalis House.
The Chrysalis House taught me to show up for life, to be responsible, how to be a friend, a mother, a daughter, and a good employee. I was none of these things when I got there. The staff cares about each and every woman that walks through their doors, and I will be forever grateful to the staff and counselors who believed in me until I could believe in myself.
Today, my life is more than I would have ever dreamed possible. My two children that I walked away from many years ago are now part of my life. My youngest daughter will soon be 12... I am able to her mom today, to help coach her softball team, to show up for school events, things I never did with my oldest two children.
The tools I learned while a resident at the Chrysalis House have taught me to have a life worth living. I still have bad days, but I no longer have bad years. I work a full time job and part time at the Chrysalis House. I am able to give back and to be a power of example for the new ladies who come into the house. If it were not for the Chrysalis House believing in me and the love and guidance they provided me, I would not be the woman I am today. I will be forever grateful to everyone who a part in my recovery at the Chrysalis House." Lisa D.
